Salary: $174,580 to $233,550 per annum

The Clerk of the Yukon Legislative Assembly (Clerk) is the chief permanent officer of the Legislative Assembly and has overall responsibility for all matters pertaining to the management of its operations. The Clerk has statutory duties pursuant to the Legislative Assembly Act and other legislation, and follows direction provided by the Legislative Assembly, the Members’ Services Board, and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
The Clerk and the Legislative Assembly Office staff provide independent non-partisan advice and services, administrative support and information services. The Clerk is selected by the Members’ Services Board, an all-party committee of the Legislative Assembly, and is appointed by order in council pursuant to the Public Service Act.
The Clerk, as the principal authority on the laws, practices and privileges relating to the Legislative Assembly has overall responsibility for the services provided to the Legislative Assembly including: (1) providing advice to the Speaker and Members on procedural matters concerning the privileges, rules, usages, and proceedings of the Assembly, (2) preparing Assembly documents and maintaining the Assembly’s records, and (3) the directing of the administration of services provided to the Legislative Assembly, including financial, personnel and administrative services. In this, the Clerk’s duties are similar to those of a departmental deputy minister.
The successful candidate will: (1) have in-depth knowledge of, and experience with, parliamentary procedure and administration, (2) possess management and leadership skills, (3) be strong in both verbal and written communication, (4) have experience at a senior level with strengths in managing resources in a dynamic environment, and (5) possess superior decision-making experience with respect to sensitive issues. The successful candidate will have a degree from a recognized university in political science, history, law, public administration or in other related disciplines or a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience. Applicants must be able to work in Canada.
